ITIL - Information
Technology Infrastructure Library
Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) guidelines developed by the CCTA (now OGC) in Norwich,
England, for the British Government, is a set of best practices used to deliver high quality IT services. The best
practices described in ITIL represent the consensus derived from over a decade of work by thousands of IT and data
processing professionals' world-wide, including hundreds of years of collective experience. Because of its depth
and breadth, the ITIL has become the defacto world standard for IT best practices.
The official definition of ITIL is as follows:
ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) is the most widely accepted approach to IT Service Management (ITSM) in the
world. ITIL provides a cohesive set of best practice, drawn from the public and private sectors
internationally. It is supported by a comprehensive qualification scheme, accredited training organisations, and
implementation and assessment tools. The best-practice processes promoted in ITIL both support and are supported by
the British Standards Institution's Standard for IT Service Management (BS15000).
In recognition of the fact that ITIL is fast becoming the world standard for IT Service Management ITIL training
workshops is a valued component of TNEC's range of training solutions.
